Description
The K6 telephone kiosk is a standard design made from cast iron and painted red overall. It features long horizontal glazing in the door and sides, with crowns applied to the top panels rather than perforated. One side has a white display sign reading "TELEPHONE" beneath a shallow curved roof, while the other sides have modern display signs that read "E-MAIL + TEXT + PHONE." The internal equipment has been modernised, and the glazing in the door and sides has been partly replaced with smoked Perspex.
Located in a picturesque setting at the side of a short un-surfaced lane near its junction with a 'C' class road running north-south along the valley bottom, the kiosk is adjacent to where the River Glenderamackin emerges from its hillside valley and turns sharply almost 90 degrees as it enters the broad valley bottom. Behind the kiosk is the Grade II listed early 19th century School House, and approximately 25 metres to the east, on the opposite side of the valley road, is the Grade II listed late 18th century or early 19th century Gate Farm, Gate Cottage, and an adjoining former barn. The telephone box has a strong visual relationship with these nearby buildings.
