Description
The gatehouse at Croft Hotel dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and has later additions. It is constructed of white-washed and roughcast stone rubble with an old slate roof, and it features two low storeys in an L-shaped plan. The gable at the east end has two 16-paned sash windows and two 3-light small-paned casements, all with slate labels. There is a door located in the re-entrant side. The long range facing the road to the west includes a modern door and three windows on each floor, with the upper windows set in low half-dormers. One of these windows is a 15-paned non-opening type, while the others are 3-light small-paned casements. A single large squat chimney is present. To the west, there is a former stable and loft under the same roof, which is now used as a garage. The central block is from the 16th century, with 17th-century additions on three sides. The gatehouse, along with Croft Hotel, Croft Lodge, Nos 1 to 5 (consecutive) known as Croft Courtyard, a cobbled courtyard with a mounting block and pump, Howsley Cottage, Wayside, and Rock Cottage, form a cohesive group.
