Description

The building comprises a town hall and cottage, dating to 1790, with an enlargement in 1887. It has a slate ground floor, roughcast first floor, and hipped slate roofs. The building is two storeys and seven bays, with the first two bays recessed and lower than the rest, and the final two bays set back. The ground floor features elliptical-headed arches, originally open, now infilled with small-paned glazing. A flat band runs over the arches. The first bay contains a Y-tracery window, and the third bay provides the entrance. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, with round-headed recesses to those in bays two through seven. Datestones note the building’s construction and extension. The left return demonstrates two round-headed windows and the entrance, with a first-floor Venetian window – a sash with glazing bars, with most lights blocked. The right return displays a lean-to extension and a small porch. Two roof ridge ventilators are visible. The rear of the building is built into the hillside. The central three bays represent the original town hall construction, with the first two bays forming the cottage.
