Description
Longmire is a building from the 17th century or earlier, located in Troutbeck. The structure features roughcast over stone rubble, with thick walls and an old slate roof. It has a large projecting chimney with offsets and a round stack. At the rear, there is a spinning gallery with turned balusters. The large gable displays three string courses, and there are new windows designed to match the old wood mullioned ones. The south front includes a gabled porch, four windows on the ground floor, and five above, all with wood mullions and transoms, featuring modern leaded lights and a heavy modern string course.
Inside, the building boasts beams, panelling, a Georgian round-arched alcove, and a spice cupboard dated 1689. The back door, dated 1690, retains its original massive wooden lock. The interior also includes flagged floors, some grisaille glass dated 1565, plaster ornamentation, plank partitions, cloak pegs, and wood-pegged bedroom floors.
