Description
The Barn at Town End is a 17th-century structure located on the east side of the road opposite Town End in Troutbeck Village. It features a panel dated 1666 and is constructed of stone rubble with an old roof made of graded slates. The barn has two gabled wings that include arrow slits, with shippons below and lofts above. An earth ramp between the wings leads up to the barn doors on the upper level, and there is a wooden gallery with arched braces that connects to the lofts of the wings, which are fitted with wood mullioned windows. The interior boasts a queen post roof. Additionally, a later stone barn has been added to the south, which includes a lean-to canopy over the entrance, arrow slits, and doors leading to stables and lofts.
