Description

Moorend Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding date from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later additions. The farmhouse is built of coursed rubble, with roughcast on the house and a slate roof. The east elevation features two storeys and four bays, with the fourth bay likely added later. It has square windows with chamfered reveals and casements, while the windows in the fourth bay have narrower chamfers. The entrance is plain, with a half-glazed door located in the fourth bay. There is a gable-end stack and two cross-axial stacks, one of which is squat and located to the north of the third bay. The rear of the house includes a later outshut under a catslide roof, a canted stair bay, and a sashed window. The outbuilding extends to the north and has a central segmental-headed barn entrance flanked by inserted windows. To the south, there is an entrance that has been converted into a window, while to the north, there is an entrance and a pitching hole above it, along with a later extension that features two entrances, one of which is wide with a segmental head. The gable-end has a first-floor entrance, and the rear is covered by a corrugated iron lean-to shed. Inside the farmhouse, there is a fireplace with a heck partition and a spice cupboard featuring butterfly hinges and a drawer below. A court cupboard in the partition wall has decorative relief panels without a crest, and inlaid decoration on the panels. There is also a winding stair. It is said that the house has a date of 1728 marked inside, although this has not been seen.
