Description
Low Brown Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 18th century, with 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of stone rubble, with later parts featuring coursed stone and ashlar dressings, topped by a slate roof. The southeast elevation has two storeys and seven bays, with the first, sixth, and seventh bays being later additions. The second to fifth bays contain two-light windows with flat-faced mullions and fillets around the surrounds, while the fifth bay has a fire window. The first bay features a casement window on the ground floor, and the sixth and seventh bays have plain surrounds with 20-pane sash windows. The entrance is located between the fifth and sixth bays and includes a small-paned side light. There are two cross-axial stacks with coved cornices and a gable-end stack.
At the rear, there is an entrance with a stop-chamfered lintel inscribed with "E & HSH," a 20-pane sash window above, and similar windows in a two-bay lean-to outshut on the left. To the right is a four-bay outshut, with two bays under a catslide roof featuring small-paned casements and sash windows, and fillets around the surrounds. Additionally, there are two bays raised under a flat roof with 20th-century casements and an entrance.
