Description

Glebe Farmhouse is a house built in 1637 for Reverend L Dawes as a rectory. It features roughcast stone and a slate roof. The north-west elevation has two storeys and four bays, with the second bay forming a two-storey gabled porch that has a lean-to outshut to the right. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned, with those on the ground floor having label moulds. The first bay contains a two-light window with a fire window to the left; the porch has a light to the left return and a 20th-century casement in the lean-to. The third and fourth bays have four-light windows, each retaining only one mullion. On the first floor, there are three-light windows, with the porch window having a label and the others missing their mullions, featuring horizontally sliding sashes. The entrance has a sunk triangular head and a studded door, with a panel in the architrave above inscribed: "LD/ NON MIHI SED/SUCCESSORIBUS/1637". The entrance is located at the fourth bay. Gable-end stacks are present. The south-east elevation shows varied fenestration and a projecting lateral stack. The first three bays have lights on the ground floor and larger casement windows on the first floor; the third bay has chamfered windows with horizontally sliding sashes, and a hollow-chamfered fire window to the right, with a similar light above on the first floor. There is a plain entrance. The interior, which was not inspected, is noted to have two ogee-headed doorways on the first floor. The outbuildings at the gable ends are of no special interest.
