Description
Bannisdale Head is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a 19th-century wing added to the south. The structure is built of roughcast stone rubble and features a slate roof. The west elevation has two storeys and three bays, with the third bay projecting forward under a gable, which connects to the 19th-century wing. The first two bays have a dripstone that is interrupted over the porch. The ground floor windows are segmental-headed, with fixed wood frames and opening lights, while the first floor has similar straight-headed windows. There is a gabled central porch with a plank outer door and a cross-axial stack on the right-hand end. The east facade is similar, featuring small windows with casements and a large gabled porch that includes a gable-end stack and a plank door. The south elevation has two storeys and two bays, with tall casement windows. It also has a gabled porch with a return entrance, gable-end stacks, and wide verges. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to have a fireplace with a wood heck and an 18th-century stone fireplace, a front door with planted fillets and an oak lock, and a lath and plaster partition.
