Description

Kilnstones Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century farmhouse, with later alterations and a rear extension. It is constructed of limewashed rubble walls with projecting through stones, and has a graduated green slate roof with blue glazed ridge tiles, as well as two chimneys. The house is two storeys high with an attic. A two-storey porch with a pitched slate roof is situated on the east side. A 20th century door is set within a 17th century moulded stone surround on the west side. The windows are of various dates, including 17th century stone mullions, 19th century stone mullions in the gable, and 19th and 20th century casements. The interior features a stone staircase, exposed oak beams and remains of an ingle-nook fireplace. Additionally, there is a 17th century panelled passage wall and several 17th century doors. A stone staircase and exposed oak beams are preserved. See the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, page 158, for further details.
