Description

Yewbarrow Hall, also known as Ubarrow Hall, is a Grade II listed building located in Long Sleddale. This structure consists of a tower house, likely dating back to the medieval period, and an attached 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone later alterations.

The tower features rubble walls made of boulders, a crowstepped gable, and stone lintels and cills. It stands two storeys high, although it was previously taller. Access to the entrance is at the first floor via an external stone stair, with two small windows on the ground floor. Inside, there is a vaulted undercroft that includes a stone fireplace and a wide chimney, along with a kingpost roof that probably dates to the 16th century. The east corner of the tower contains the remains of a circular stair.

The farmhouse section is covered in roughcast render and has a slate drip, with a graduated slate roof and two end chimney stacks. It also has two storeys. The central stone porch features a slate roof and side benches, leading to a 19th-century board door. On either side of the porch are 20th-century casement windows, and above are two 19th-century sash windows with a single vertical glazing bar.

Inside the farmhouse, there are exposed beams, a beef loft over the fireplace, 19th-century board partitions, old plank doors, and a court cupboard with enriched panels located in the kitchen.
