Description
The bridge over the River Lowther is a road bridge built in the late 17th century as a replacement for a wooden structure. It may have been widened and had its parapets raised following a report on the bridge's condition in 1887. The bridge is constructed from coursed, squared rubble, and features wooden fencing that replaces the parapet over the central and eastern arches. It has three segmental arches, each spanning approximately 35 feet, which are separated by cutwaters that include polygonal refuges. The roadway is about 10 feet wide, with splayed stone parapets at both ends and over the western arch, standing around 3 feet high.
