Description
The building is a barn and cow house located to the south-west of Yew Tree Farmhouse. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th century. The structure is made of stone rubble and features a slate roof. It consists of a 5-bay barn with a 4-bay extension added to the north in the 18th century, which includes an open-fronted gallery on the first floor above the cow house. The barn has tie beam trusses, two of which are later replacements. The entrance to the barn is located in the north gable end, and there is a through passage leading to the south of the cow house. A stone stair leads to the gallery on the north side, while the southern bay is enclosed with plastered panels, and there is a plank and muntin partition separating it from the barn. The rear of the building has two 20th-century additions that are not of special interest. The property is owned by The National Trust, having been a gift from Beatrix Potter.
