Description
Yew Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an addition from the mid-18th century, marked by a door latch dated "1743/CWA". It is constructed of stone rubble, with the front wing being roughcast and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows feature casements, and the central entrance includes a wide-boarded door beneath a slate open gabled porch. There are gable-end stacks, and the rear wing is lower with two bays, featuring a fire window and a round gable-end stack on a square base, along with a slate open gabled porch, although one side is missing.
Inside, the rear wing contains two upper cruck trusses. The front wing features a fielded-panel partition with a dado rail, cornice, and a two-panel door. This room also has two adjacent cupboards with fielded-panel doors. The staircase includes turned balusters and square newels, and there are some plank and muntin partitioning along with wide-boarded doors leading to the first floor. The property is owned by The National Trust, a gift from Beatrix Potter.
