Description
The building is a boathouse and cottage located approximately 360 meters west of the Outward Bound School, likely dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of slate rubble with ashlar dressings, some sandstone, and features a slate roof. The structure has a T-plan and stands two storeys tall.
The north facade is one storey with an attic and consists of two bays. It has a drip course over the ground floor and wide eaves. The first bay includes a window with a small-paned casement on the ground floor, while the second bay has a smaller window with a small-paned casement on the first floor. There is a central porch beneath a catslide roof, featuring a segmental arched entrance and small-paned sidelights. A stack with three round shafts is located at the rear of the ridge.
The east gable end mirrors the north facade with a wide verge, and the first-floor window has a 20th-century casement. The left wing contains the boathouse entrance at a lower level, while the upper level features a four-bay loggia supported by Doric columns and demi-columns, along with a frieze. The entrance has ashlar dressings and a door with strap hinges. The east gable end has a roof that sweeps down over an outshut to the right. The ground floor includes a three-light small-paned casement, with some plate glass inserted and a small inserted window; the first floor has a 20th-century casement.
The boathouse, recessed to the right, has a 20th-century casement and an end lean-to buttress. The south elevation is roughcast and features a segmental-headed boat entrance and a segmental-headed entrance to steps from the loggia, with a 20th-century casement above. This building is noted as a particularly good example of a 19th-century boathouse.
