Description

The Bield is a 17th-century house located in Little Langdale, alongside an adjacent barn. It is constructed of roughcast stone rubble with a flag roof. The house is two storeys high and features a boarded door protected by a slate gable hood, along with two small-paned casement windows on the ground floor and five above.

Inside, the house retains original stone floors and an open timber roof with a bracken loft. A stone fireplace, timber ceiling with beams, and a 17th-century wood-mullioned window on the landing are also present. A cupboard and panelled partition, both dated 1714, add to the historic character of the interior.

The adjacent barn, likely of the 18th century, adjoins the house to the right. It features two rows of arrow slits and a higher corrugated roof.
