Description
Skinner Hill is a house located in Upper Allithwaite, Lindale, dating from 1686, with later additions. The building is constructed of stone rubble with slobbered mortar, while the rear and return are roughcast, topped with slate roofs. It has two storeys and three bays, with the third bay being a later extension that has no windows. The windows feature small-paned casements; those on the ground floor have slated lintels and dripstones, and the right window is a fire window. The entrance to the first bay has a flat arch and a wide-boarded door with two glazed openings. There is a gable-end stack with a round shaft. The left return has a gable to the extension with a chamfered angle to the right, a ground floor casement window, and a first floor sashed window with vertical glazing bars and horns. The rear includes an outshut under a catslide roof, which projects further, with small-paned casements. There is a re-entrant lean-to projection to the left with a return entrance and a skylight. Inside, the house features chamfered beams, some wide-boarded doors, a narrow winding stone stair, and a spice cupboard door with a decorated panel.
