Description

East Lynch Cottage is a farmhouse that has been enlarged into a cottage with a barn. It dates from the late medieval period and was ceiled in the late 16th to early 17th century. The front has been partially rebuilt and the cottage was enlarged to include the barn, possibly in the 18th century. The exterior is roughcast over rubble, with a thatched roof that is half-hipped to the right. There is a brick stack on the left gable end and a stone stack to the left of the cross passage.

The building likely started as an open hall house, which has been ceiled to create a three-cell layout with a cross passage. The end wall has been removed, allowing for the extension of the cottage to include the barn. It is one and a half storeys high, featuring 20th-century wooden casements. There are three 2-light dormers to the left of the entrance, with two 2-light windows on the ground floor to the left of a 20th-century door, one window to the right, and double doors leading to the barn beyond.

The interior has not been seen, but it is said to contain true crucks that are smoke blackened, with a hip true cruck on the left gable end. The right cruck has been removed when the wall was rebuilt. There are lateral beams with run-out stops to the left of the now-blocked cross passage at the rear.
