Description

The Selworthy War Memorial Cross is a tall stone memorial located on a raised paved platform at the roadside, to the west of the Church of All Saints, which is a Grade I-listed building. It is also near several Grade II-listed buildings within the Holnicote Estate, managed by the National Trust. The memorial features an equal-armed cross atop a tapering shaft, which stands on an octagonal pedestal, resting on an octagonal two-stepped base.

The memorial is dedicated to those who served in the First World War, with a bronze plaque on the front face of the upper step that reads "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE GREAT WAR" followed by eight names, with the dates 1914 and 1918 on either side of the names. A second plaque on the front face of the lower step commemorates the Second World War, repeating the dedication and listing the dates 1939 and 1945 beside the names.
