Description

The Tithe Barn and Tithe Barn Cottage comprise a late medieval tithe barn that has been enlarged and converted into two dwellings, with substantial alterations in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The barn is constructed of local stone rubble, with some cob exposed on the south front, and has a double Roman tiled roof with coped verges and kneelers at the west end. Two stone stacks are situated towards the centre of the building.

The building lies east-west, and the original front facing the road remains largely unaltered. The south front has been extensively modified to accommodate one of the dwellings. The north front features seven buttresses with offsets, and a centrally positioned, blocked archway, possibly a dole window or for tithe offerings. This arch retains a hoodmould with decorative terminals and carving, and is a rare feature. A two-light cinquefoil headed window is present in the gable end of the west elevation, with remnants of an ovolo moulded window below. Much of the west elevation has been altered. An entrance is situated on the buttressed south front, incorporating late 19th and mid-20th century additions.

The interior contains no datable features. A photograph is held within the National Monuments Record.
