Description

Lorna Doone National Trust Shop and Information Centre is a semi-detached cottage, originally built in the 17th century and enlarged in the mid-19th century. It is now used as a cottage and shop. The building features roughcast over rubble and possibly cob, with thatched roofs hipped to the left and a large lateral stack to the right of the original entrance. The plan consists of two cells, with an additional two bays and a porch to the east. It has one and a half storeys and single-storey additions, with five bays in the original dwelling. The windows include semicircular headed two-light casements flanking the lateral stack, and a thatched pentice porch with a cambered head plank door. There is also a window in the angle of the chimney breast, and three and two-light casements to the right. The left side features a half-hipped single-storey cross wing addition with a thatched central bay window, three-light ogee headed lights with an ogee headed doorway, a ribbed plank door, and a leaded light beyond.
