Description

Allerford New Bridge is a road bridge over Horner Water, with medieval origins and dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from local stone random rubble and features a single span flanked by cutwaters that have half arch spans. The bridge has a pointed arch opening made with dressed stone voussoirs, and the cement-capped cutwaters rise almost to the parapet. The half arches abut and are partially filled on the cutwater side, with cement saddle back coping on the parapet that ramps up to the center. The bridge is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument, listed as Somerset County No 230.
