Description
The Pier is a structure that forms part of the quay construction in Lynmouth, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It was badly damaged by floods in 1952 and subsequently rebuilt in 1954. The pier is constructed from rubble and dressed granite, with asphalt paving. It features a short vertical quay wall that projects northeast from where The Esplanade meets Lynmouth Street. The outer northwest side of the wall consists of roughly squared granite blocks, topped with a weathered and rounded granite parapet approximately 1.5 meters high, which returns across the end. This parapet contains a path that passes under the Rhenish Tower and has tubular railings on the southeast side. At the street end, there is a broader platform raised on two steps, leading to a long ramp, and beyond the Tower, there is a flight of 20 steps set into the wall.
