Description
Keeper's Cottage is a lodge to Holnicote House, which is not included in the listing. It was built in the early 19th century and was probably enlarged in the late 19th century. The cottage is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a plain clay tiled roof with a half-hipped southeast gable and a pyramid roof on the northeast bay. A large stone stack is located at the center of the original range on the north front.
The building has a two-cell plan that was enlarged with a parallel range of two cells on the south side. It stands two storeys high with two bays. The east front has two-light casements, and the entrance is located in a porch with a corrugated iron roof at the center, featuring a plank door. To the left of the entrance is a full-height canted bay, and a diagonal butt joint on the left-hand bay indicates an earlier lean-to addition. The north front is only lit at the ground floor, and the windows of the original block have panelled reveals. The cottage is listed primarily for its group value with Stratford Cottage to the east.
