Description
Higher Lodge is a lodge for Holnicote House, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features hipped thatched roofs, with a central moulded stone stack set diagonally. The building has a cruciform plan and the rear elevation (east) jetties out on timber piers with weatherboarded infill, showcasing a picturesque style.
The lodge is one and a half storeys tall. On the west front, there is a single-storey projection with a hipped roof, which includes a 2-light mullioned and transomed arched head window. The north front has a projecting hipped roof bay with a leaded iron casement, and the entrance is through a plank door on the right, with a lean-to addition on the left. The east front features a 2-light arched window with divided tracery on the first floor above the timber infill, while a similar window is found on the south front crosswing, which has an inserted 20th-century window to the left.
