Description
Butlers Cottage is a house that likely dates from the 17th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. It features roughcast over rubble and scalloped clay tiles, with a hipped roof to the left. There is a large external chimney stack on the right gable end, an additional stack rising on the left below the first floor level, and a lateral stack at the rear. The plan may consist of three cells and a cross passage, with an outshot and a porch addition. The building has two storeys and is arranged in a 2:1:2 bay configuration. The left bays have 18th-century wooden cruciform leaded windows with inset casements, while the centre has a full-height gabled porch with a half-timbered gable end and a similar cruciform window. The right bays feature cruciform windows and 19th-century multi-paned casements on the ground floor, along with a square-headed opening to the porch and an inner plank door. The interior has not been seen. This cottage was the home of the butler at Holnicote House, which is not included in this listing.
