Description
The linhay and stables with a loft over at Brandish Street Farm is likely from the 18th century and was enlarged in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble and features slate roofs, with the stables having a shallower pitch. The building is arranged in an L-shape, consisting of a three-bay linhay or cattle byre with a loft above, a doorway on the right, and a two-bay stable that includes a tack room and a lean-to addition at the angle.
The linhay has square-headed full-height openings in the wall, a weather-boarded upper storey, and two plank doors in each bay. There is a square-headed doorway on the right, two unglazed openings set below the eaves on the left, and two segmental-headed doorways below. The lean-to addition features a square-headed doorway in the angle and a loft opening in the right gable end. Inside, the linhay has a scissor truss roof, a full-length trough that runs behind and is accessed from the rear, and partitions for carthorse loose boxes on the right.
