Description

Meadowsides Packhorse Cottage is a pair of semi-detached cottages, likely dating from the 17th century, and significantly altered in the late 19th century. The cottages are built of red sandstone rubble with a double Roman tile roof, hipped to the right side over a canted bay. A lateral stack is located to the right, and a stone stack is present at the left gable end. The building is arranged in an L-shape.

The facade is one and a half storeys, with a three-bay front to the left and a single bay to the right. Dormer casements with two lights are located on the left side, while a cambered two-light casement is on the right. At ground level, a slate-roofed bread oven projection is visible to the left, alongside cambered three-light windows. A central entrance is flanked by sidelights, and a similar configuration is present on the canted wall to the right, with a plank door.

On the right return, a gabled porch is supported by chamfered wooden columns, featuring a two-light window. A studded plank door is also present, and a 20th-century two-light window has replaced a blocked doorway. The left return includes a single-storey lean-to addition.
