Description

The Packhorse Bridge, located at National Grid Reference SS 9051 4691, is a Grade II* listed structure. It has medieval origins and has been restored at a later date. The bridge is constructed from red sandstone random rubble with flat stone coping. It features a two-arch span, with segmental-headed random rubble voussoirs and a central cutwater on the east side, which is the upstream side. The parapet is swept back in the north-east corner, and there is a pebbled pathway. This bridge is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 212).
