Description

Sisters Fountain and the adjoining pool, located approximately 700 metres to the south-west of Glenthorne, date from the early 19th century. The structure is made of coursed stone rubble and is built into the hillside, featuring flanking splayed retaining walls and a stone cross above. There is a full-height entrance to a chamber that has an arch over the spring inside. The spring water flows into an oval pool down the hill to the north-east, which is formed by stone rubble retaining walls. The spring head and pool are situated on the hillside above Glenthorne, a house built for the Reverend W. S. Halliday, which began construction in 1829. Nearby is the location where Reverend Halliday is said to have decided to build his house, marked by a small inscribed stone known as the decision stone, although it was not visible during the survey in July 1987 due to dense undergrowth.
