Description

West End Cottage is a house located on West Street in Ashburton, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features very thick, roughcast walls, except for the right-hand end of the upper storey, which may be constructed of brick or timber-framing. The roof is slated and hipped to the left, and there is a large chimney on the rear wall to the left. The house appears to have originally been designed with two rooms, with an entrance that is off-centre to the left. It has two storeys and is three windows wide, with the two right-hand windows positioned well over to the right. The entrance consists of a six-panelled door, of which the four upper panels are now glazed. The windows are fitted with wood casements that have leaded lights, except for the wide right-hand ground storey window, which features wooden glazing bars.
