Description
Mayflower is a house located on West Street in Ashburton, likely built in the 17th century and remodeled in the mid or late 18th century. The building features rendered walls and a slated roof, with rendered chimneys that have tapered caps on each gable wall. It is double-fronted with a short rear wing, standing two storeys tall with a garret and a single-storeyed rear wing. The front facade has three windows, raised quoins, and a dormer gable that spans almost the entire front. The central entrance has a six-panelled door, where the two bottom panels are flush and the top two are now glazed, framed by a moulded architrave and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The windows are late 19th century sash windows with two panes, while the gable features Yorkshire sashes, each with twelve panes. Above the gable is a shaped plaque, likely from the 19th century, displaying the dates 1674 and 1806. Additionally, there is a terracotta finial of a horse rider from 1896 on the gable, along with moulded bargeboards.
