Description

The stables and shippon, located approximately 8 metres north of Clannaborough Farmhouse, are likely from the late 17th to early 18th century. They are constructed from granite stone rubble, featuring large roughly-shaped quoins and some cob at the tops of the walls. While most of the building is covered with corrugated iron, the front section of the stables retains its thatched roof.

The structure is L-shaped, with the main block facing northeast and housing the stables. A crosswing projects forward from the left (northwest) end, which contains the shippon. The front of the stables has a doorway flanked by windows, with the left window blocking a former doorway. At the right end, there is a doorway that was inserted or widened in the 20th century, and above it is a hayloft loading hatch. The inner side of the shippon features a doorway with a window alongside it. Both roofs are gable-ended and include hayloft loading hatches. The carpentry throughout is plain yet robust, with A-frame trusses and pegged lap-jointed collars. This building is part of an attractive group alongside the significant Clannaborough farmhouse and the cottage situated behind it.
