Description

Paynes Bridge is a road bridge over the Shilley Pool stream, likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of granite stone rubble, featuring ashlar voussoirs and coping. The bridge has a small single span with a plain vault that forms a segmental arch, supported by relatively tall vertical abutments lining the stream. There is no drip course present. The parapet is flat, and the walls curve outwards slightly at each end, with the coping also being slightly curved.
