Description

The former stable attached to the south-west corner of Low House Farmhouse is now used as a shippon. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century but includes some earlier materials. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with large quoins, and the east front is white-washed, topped with a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular plan oriented on a north-south axis, probably consisting of two structural bays. The stable is two storeys high, featuring an oblong window near each end of the ground floor, which has stone slate drip-bands. There are also two windows or loading doors in the centre of the upper floor, and a ball finial adorns the south gable. The north gable wall connects to the house at the first floor, and there is a doorway on this end. The rear (west) wall shows an extremely steeply pitched gable wall from a former single-storey building, which was likely cruck framed. The interior has not been inspected. This building forms a group with Low House and a garden shelter located approximately 50 meters to the south.
