Description
The coach house opposite Garsdale Hall is a building that likely dates from the early to mid 19th century and has been slightly altered. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular three-bay plan aligned on an east-west axis, facing north, and has two low storeys.
In the first and second bays, there are a pair of tall segmental-headed wagon doorways. To the right, there is one four-pane window on each floor; the lower window has a rectangular lintel, while the upper window is oblong and located just under the eaves. Both windows are now top-hung casements. There is also a gable chimney on the right side.
The interior was not inspected, but it is presumed that the domestic doorway is accessed through the second wagon doorway. This coach house is part of a notable farmstead group that includes Garsdale Hall across the road and a barn to the west. It was formerly described as a barn to the southeast. At the time of inspection in October 1994, the building was unoccupied.
