Description
These stables, located approximately 5 metres east of Higher Horselake Farmhouse, are likely from the 18th century. They are constructed from granite stone rubble with large, roughly-dressed quoins and feature a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatch. The stable block is oriented northwest and built into a slope, with a terraced rear. The front has a central doorway that contains a 19th-century plank door, flanked by shuttered windows. On the first floor, there is another shuttered window to the left and a hayloft loading hatch to the right. The roof has hipped ends. Inside, the stables showcase plain carpentry details, including a tall, steeply-pitched roof supported by A-frame trusses with pegged and spiked lap-jointed collars. These stables, along with the nearby shippon, form a group with the significant Higher Horselake Farmhouse.
