Description
A pair of houses dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, situated on Lower Street in Chagford. The construction consists of plastered granite rubble with prominent dressed quoins visible on the left end, a granite stack with a granite ashlar chimney shaft, and a thatched roof. The cottages are built along the street, facing north-west, and each follows a mirrored plan. Each cottage has a single room width and a depth of two rooms, with a central axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces. Entrance lobbies leading to the stairs are positioned at either end. Number 7 is the right-hand cottage, and Number 9 is on the left. The exterior features a two-window front with 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, accompanied by plank doors. The roof is gable-ended. The interior was not inspected.
