Description
Clapper Bridge spans Blackslade Water and is located on the road from Cold East Crossroads to Pudsham Down, approximately 670 metres north-east of Ruddycleave Farmhouse. It dates from the 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of granite. The bridge features two spans supported by large granite blocks forming abutments and a central pier. This central pier has sharply pointed cutwaters on each side and supports heavy granite lintels. The top of the bridge is covered with 20th-century road metalling, and there are simple 20th-century iron railings on each side, which are anchored at both ends by rough granite posts.
