Description
Courtgate is a house dating from the 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gabled and half-hipped ends. The right-hand (northeast) lower end has a lower roof level. The house has two storeys and a long four-window range, with 20th-century casement windows. A 19th-century gabled porch is located to the right of the center, leading to a cross passage. The inner doorway has a chamfered two-centred arch with pyramid stops. There are rendered chimney stacks, one off-center backing onto the cross passage and one at each end. The interior has been much altered, but the hall window features a wooden chamfered lintel with carved stops, and there is a similar wooden ceiling beam at the higher end of the hall. The fireplaces and staircase are from the 20th century.
