Description
Piall Bridge is a road bridge over the Piall River, built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from granite ashlar, with some areas featuring rock-faced stone. The bridge has a single deeply-chamfered four-centred arch, which is adorned with a roll moulded hoodmould. On the downstream side, there are cutwaters with semi-octagonal piers above them. A stringcourse runs along the bridge, topped by a low parapet that has chamfered coping. There is a plaque on the parapet that reads, "This Bridge erected at the cost of William MacWorth Praed Esq was accepted by the County of Devon." However, the bottom of the plaque is now covered by the road surface, obscuring any date that may have been inscribed.
