Description

This is an outbuilding located about 30 metres north of Laployde Barton, dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of granite rubble and has a corrugated iron roof that is gabled at both ends. The building has a rectangular shape with two later short front projections and a lean-to at the right end, where the main roof extends down as a catslide over the projections and lean-to, creating porches for two doorways on the front.

The outbuilding is lofted, although the loft is incomplete. There are two 17th-century doorways with chamfered doorframes on the front, protected by the lean-to roof. The left-hand doorway is flanked by windows and features the remnants of a porch canopy, along with a loft opening above it. The rear elevation facing the road includes three loft openings, two ground floor windows, and a dilapidated doorway.

Inside, not all roof trusses were visible during the inspection in 1987, but the visible ones are side-pegged jointed cruck trusses with collars that are lap dovetailed into the principal rafters. There are also two well-finished, small first floor chamfered doorframes that are surprisingly neat for an agricultural building. The outbuilding has group value with Laployde Barton and the barn opposite the house.
