Description

Lukesland is a large country house located in a landscaped garden, built in 1862 and extended around 1880. It is designed in the Tudor style, constructed from uncoursed pink granite with grey granite quoins and dressings. The house features a steeply pitched slate roof with shaped gables and has an asymmetrical design. The west front has four bays, with the left and right bays slightly advanced and topped with shaped gables that have large finials. The right-hand bay includes a first-floor oriel window, while the left-hand bay has a stone porch with a 4-centred arch. The central section has a two-storeyed splayed bay. All windows are stone mullioned and transomed, featuring either 4-centred or ogee-headed lights. To the left (north), there is a three-storey tower with an embattled parapet and a polygonal stair turret, along with shaped gables on the north and south sides. The building is arranged around three sides of a courtyard, with service wings at the rear and a large traceried window at the back of the main structure. Inside, the hall boasts a moulded plaster vaulted ceiling and likely contains other notable interior features.
