Description

SX 65 NW HARFORD HARFORD 11/78 23.4.52 Harford Bridge

II

Roadbridge over River Erme. Circa C17. Granite rubble with dressed granite arches. Two round arches with recessed arch rings, the west a much smaller flood arch. Cutwater on both sides. Parapets with chamfered granite coping, splayed at either end over the abutments. A bridge existed on this site in C16 and some of the fabric may be of this date. Circa 1668/9 the bridge was repaired and the present bridge may be a rebuild of that date. The smaller flood arch appears to be later and the bridge has been widened on the upstream side.
