Description
No. 7 (N C Symons) is a shop with living space above, located in a row of buildings on Court Street in Moretonhampstead. It dates from the early 17th century, with alterations from the early 19th century and a rear extension added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed stone rubble and has a dry slate roof with gabled ends, with the left side abutting No. 5. The layout consists of a one-room plan, currently functioning as a shop with a room above and a rear room in the 19th-century extension. Originally, it was likely part of a larger house that included No. 5 to the left. The building has two storeys and one window range. The first floor features a possibly 20th-century three-light casement window with glazing bars. The ground floor has a 20th-century plate glass shop window on the right and a 20th-century glazed door on the left. The interior does not have any exposed features on the ground floor, and the first floor and roof were not inspected as they were not accessible during the survey in 1985. This building is part of one of the most complete rows of early houses that have survived in Moretonhampstead and is included for its group value.
