Description

Dart Bridge is a bridge that spans the River Dart, dating from the 14th or 15th century. It was widened in the early 19th century and again in the early 20th century. The structure is primarily built from local grey limestone rubble, with some red sandstone and granite incorporated. The visible parts from the early 20th century are made of limestone rubble and feature granite copings on the parapets. The bridge consists of four round-headed pointed arches, with the voussoirs made from two alternating types of stone. The 20th-century arches are segmental and have cutwaters on both sides, with semicircular buttresses that rise to the level of the tops of the parapets. The bridge is mentioned as 'Dertebrygg' in the Assize Rolls from 1356.
