Description

The grotto, located approximately 25 metres south of Bleby House, is a folly dating from around 1700. It is constructed from rough limestone and tufa, with remnants of stone slate roofing. This small circular grotto, about 10 feet across, is built into the south sloping gardens. Barbara Jones describes it as having a domed shape made of rock, tufa, and shells, featuring a snaggle-toothed ceiling. The grotto has side windows formed by natural holes in two large rocks. It is noted for its early date and is reputed to be situated over the spot where St Kenelm's coffin was discovered, adding to its historical significance.
