Description
This barn, former stable, and pigsties at Oxleaze Farm dates to the 18th century with additions in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of random rubble walls with larger quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It comprises a three-bay barn, porches on each end bay, a higher, lofted wing on one end, and pigsties set at right angles to the other end. A lean-to porch with a corrugated-iron roof sits towards the house, sheltering double boarded doors under a timber lintel. A small, shuttered opening is on the left side, and a parapet gable exists at the left end. To the right is a taller section with no openings and a parapet gable; stone steps lead up to a former granary on its return. Internally, the barn has three bays, a threshing floor at the right end, and a former pitching hole in the right gable. It features collar and tie-beam trusses, two pairs of purlins, and a plank ridge. A hipped porch is located on the side away from the house. The granary contains king-post trusses held with metal bolts. A low, single-bay extension is on the left side of the barn, connected to four pigsties at right angles, each with a doorway and stone lintel and a boarded door with a timber lintel in the gable. The barn is the oldest part of the complex, with a stable built against a gable, and the pigsties added to the other end. It forms a group with the house and another barn.
