Description
Pound Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century, with significant alterations made in 1813. It has a rendered and scribed exterior and a slate roof. The building has an irregular plan and is located at the junction of Oldbury Road and Bredon Road (B4080). It stands two storeys tall, with a gable on the northwest side featuring two 12-pane sash windows above two 16-pane sash windows. The return elevation facing Oldbury Road has a 1+2 window arrangement, all with 16-pane sashes, although the first-floor right side is blank. At the centre of this elevation, there is an arched 11-pane sash window, designed to resemble a toll window, which was actually inserted around 1989. All windows are set on stone cills. The house has two chimney stacks. There is a 20th-century door on the southwest side and two flat-roofed extensions. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, the building served as a tool house until about 1812 and became a public house known as The Prince of Wales by 1840, according to information from the owners.
