Description
This barn, built in 1762 for GHRS, is located about 28 meters north of Thriftwood Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed, squared stone and features a stone slate roof. The barn has four bays and faces the road. On the left side, there is a blocked doorway with a timber lintel, and on the right, a triangular air vent, along with a line of four additional air vents above and one in the gable. A datestone is positioned over the entrance, and the gable has a parapet topped with an iron weathervane.
On the right side, which faces the farmhouse, there are six triangular air vents arranged in two rows, and wide double boarded doors covered with corrugated iron, also featuring a timber lintel. There is one air vent in the wall to the right, and this side also has a parapet gable. A projecting wing on the right is not of special interest.
Inside, the barn has a tie beam truss over the threshing floor, with queen struts and two pairs of purlins supporting a plank ridge. Long wind braces extend from the wall plate to the upper purlins above the threshing floor. The barn was full at the time of the survey in 1986, so the interior was not fully inspected. This barn forms a group with the adjacent farmhouse.
